Share your experience in and with sport — Future of Sport in Canada Commission

Current status: Open

On April 16, 2025, the Future of Sport in Canada Commission announced updates to its public online submission portal as part of the next phase of its mandate, including the upcoming launch of its online public survey on June 16, 2025.

Upon the launch of the survey, the Commission will be closing access to the Write to the Commission and Speak with the Commission participation options. Individuals and groups who wish to participate in the Commission’s work using those participation options have until June 16, 2025, to do so.

The Future of Sport in Canada Commission would like to learn from victims and survivors of maltreatment in sport, as well as subject-matter experts, academics, advocates, stakeholders, sport participants (including athletes, parents, coaches, administrators and other support personnel) and the Canadian public about their experience in and with sport.

In particular, over the coming months, the Commission is seeking input to:

  • bring to light the experiences, causes and impacts of inappropriate behaviour and maltreatment
  • determine how to improve the sport system in Canada including but not limited to issues related to policy, funding structures, governance, reporting, accountability, systems alignment, conflicts of interest, culture and legal considerations

How to participate

There are several ways to take part in the Commission’s work:

Take the survey

In accordance with its mandate, the Commission will be launching a public online survey to seek input from the public about their experiences in, and perspectives regarding the Canadian sport system.

Please note that the survey is under development.

Please provide your email address to receive a message once the survey is available

Write to the Commission

Writing to the Commission is a way to provide your experiences in, and perspectives regarding the Canadian sport system but also provide ideas for what can be done to improve safe sport and the Canadian sport system as a whole. The Commission invites you to share your statements, opinions, research, reports and/or documents with the Commission as they relate to its mandate — including maltreatment, policy, funding structures, governance, reporting, accountability, conflicts of interest, systems alignment, culture, and legal considerations in sport.

When sharing information about others, the Commission invites you to consider anonymizing, to the extent possible, their personal information. It is important to note that under the Privacy Act, your views and opinions about another individual are considered their personal information. As such, individuals who are the subject of allegations may obtain their personal information (such as your name and what you said about them) through the processes of a Privacy request or an Access to information request.

Please note you do not have to share personal information of other individuals with the Commission. You can refer to the Commission’s Privacy Notice or to the Privacy Act for more information about what constitutes personal information.

You are encouraged to write as early as possible, so that your submission may be considered by the Commission. Please note that due to time constraints, it may not be possible for the Commission to respond to all the submissions it will receive.

Submissions can be provided to the Commission in the official language of your choice. Please do not include any external links when filling the form using the link below. The Commission will not click on any of them due to risks of viruses and malware. When filling the form using the link below, you will be asked whether you would like to share supporting materials with the Commission and, if so, to provide your email address. You can expect to receive an email from the Commission on how to submit your supporting materials, including but not limited to Word and PDF files, within 2 working days of submitting your form to the Commission. The Commission will also acknowledge receipt of your supporting materials within 2 working days of receiving them.

The Commission expects that the submissions shared with it will be helpful in fulfilling its mandate. Material received that is offensive, abusive or physically threatening toward a person, group or organization including the Commission will not be considered.

Maltreatment in sport has caused traumatic experiences and sharing your voice with the Commission may be difficult. If you need to speak with someone, or if this is an emergency, please dial 9-1-1 or contact one of the mental health and other wellness supports that are listed on our Wellness Support page.

Speak with the Commission

If you would like to meet with the Commission team, please let us know. Due to time constraints, it may not be possible to meet with everyone who expresses an interest in doing so or meet in-person. In addition, in some cases, meetings may take place with members of the Commission team.

In order to provide a safe forum for participants to freely share their experiences and express their opinions, the Commission will be holding, as part of its engagement opportunities, in-camera sessions, which will allow participants to meet with the Commission confidentially and without certain information being recorded in any form. If you wish to avail yourself of this option, you will be able to do so and inform the Commission when completing the form using the link below.

We recognize that sharing information with the Commission may be difficult. If you are considering speaking with the Commission, we encourage you to take a few moments to consult our What to Expect page. Additionally, you may visit our Wellness Support page for additional resources.
