The review process
Scope of the review
The review examined three broad areas:
- Reviewing the legislative framework;
- Finding opportunities to improve proactive publication to make information openly available;
- Assessing processes and systems to improve service and reduce delays.
Access the Terms of Reference of the ATI Review.
The review engaged with Canadians on these important issues. And of course, it sought the views of the Information Commissioner on how to improve the way access to information works for Canadians. You can access the written submissions received through the public engagement process and learn more about what was said. You can also access the Indigenous-specific submissions to learn more about the unique access issues faced by Indigenous peoples.
In the context of the review, a costing study was conducted to ensure a better understanding of the overall costs to administer the Access to Information Act.
