Self-employed special benefits – Withdrawal from the program
Withdrawal from the program
You can withdraw from the program at any time, unless you have received special benefits as a self-employed person. If you have already received benefits, you must continue paying premiums for as long as you’re self-employed.
Withdrawal within 60 days
If you withdraw within 60 days after entering into the agreement, you won’t have to pay any premiums. If you change your mind about withdrawing, you’ll have to register for the program again. You’ll need to wait 12 months from your new confirmed agreement date before you can apply for benefits.
Withdrawal after 60 days
If you withdraw more than 60 days after entering into the agreement, you’ll have to pay premiums until December 31 of the year you withdraw.
You can still apply to receive benefits in the withdrawal year. You must notify us in writing prior to December 31 that:
- you've changed your mind about cancelling your agreement
- have an active agreement for 12 months or more
- you need benefits
Receiving benefits will cancel your withdrawal, and you'll remain in the program for the duration of your self-employment.
How to withdraw from self-employed benefits
After you sign in to MSCA, find the Employment Insurance section and select View my agreement status (self-employed). Follow the steps to end your agreement with the CEIC.
