After you file with NETFILE
After you use NETFILE, the CRA will issue a confirmation number once it has done a preliminary check of your return and the return is accepted through NETFILE for processing. This usually takes a few seconds. Keep the confirmation number for your records.
After you receive a confirmation number, the CRA may need to contact you for clarification or to verify some information. Make sure you fill in the telephone number area of your tax return.
If the CRA has to contact you, your refund and notice of assessment will be delayed.
Once your return has been processed, the CRA will send you a notice of assessment (NOA) in the mail. If you are registered for email notifications from the CRA, your NOA will not be printed and mailed to you. Instead, we will notify you at the email address you provided that mail is available for you to view in My Account. For security reasons, the email notification does not contain any links. For more information go to Email notifications from the CRA – Individuals.
If you want to find out the status of your return before you receive your NOA, go to My Account.

Changes to your return
On February 26th, 2018, the CRA introduced the ReFILE service to give taxpayers the option of having an amended income tax and benefit return filed electronically. This service lets taxpayers use NETFILE to send amended returns for a current (2023) or previous (2020, 2021 and 2022) return. The amended return will only be accepted through ReFILE if the original return was submitted through NETFILE (or EFILE).
