During epidemiological week 4, 2016, no new cases of measles or rubella were reportedFootnote 1. It has been 1 epidemiological week since the last reported measles case (week 03, 2016), and 99 weeks since the last reported rubella case (week 10, 2014).

The year-to-date total is 2 cases of measles and 0 cases of rubella for 2016 (Figure 1).

Geographic Distribution

There is currently one activeFigure 2 - Footnote * case of measles in Canada, reported in British Columbia (Figure 2). There are no active cases of rubella reported in Canada (figure not shown).

To date in 2016, measles cases have been reported in two Canadian provinces: British Columbia and Ontario.

Laboratory Summary

Measles

To date in 2016, 1 measles case (reported by Ontario) has been genotyped and the genotype was B3 (Figure 3).

Genotyping is pending for 1 measles case reported by British Columbia in week 3, 2016.

Rubella

To date in 2016, no rubella cases have been reported. As such, no genotype information is available.
