Reduce the Risks of Developing some types of Arthritis
You can reduce the risk of developing some types of arthritis or delay their onset.
Osteoarthritis
You can lower your risk of developing osteoarthritis, if you:
- Maintain a healthy body weight.
- Stay physically active to keep joints healthy and muscles (which support and stabilize the joints) strong.
- Protect your joints from injury and overuse.
Gout
You can lower your risk of developing gout, if you:
- Maintain a healthy body weight.
- Stay physically active.
- Avoid foods high in purines or known to trigger a gout flare up, such as red meat, organ meat, certain types of seafood, sugary beverages, and alcohol (especially beer).
