The Government of Canada announces the winner of the Detecting Concussions Using Objective Indicators challenge

The Public Health Agency of Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada announced the final winner (phase 2) of the Challenge:

Company Name: HealthTech Connex Inc.
Project Title: The Index of Concussion Exposure (ICE) Tool by NeuroCatch Platform
Project Duration: 24 months
Grand Prize Amount: $1 million

Details:

HealthTech Connex Inc. has been selected to advance its solution by developing a prototype to support diagnosis and prognosis for recovery upon the detection of a concussion using objective indicators. This work builds on strengths in the available databases to optimize the Index of Concussion Exposure (ICE) Tool and the artificial intelligence classification performance that has already demonstrated great results for detecting concussions.

Phase 2 of the challenge aims to expand support for the the prognosis for post-concussion syndrome and the development of products ready for commercialization on all existing and newly deployed NeuroCatch Platforms in Canada and worldwide. It is expected that the ICE Tool will be brought from prototype to being ready for adoption and commercialization. The ICE Tool is expected to be able to:

• be implemented in any location, by any individual with basic training, with actionable results within minutes;
• be used to tailor treatments and monitor an individual's progress towards recovery; and,
• identify the risk of reoccurring symptoms and post-concussion syndrome

This innovative work aims to build on the Government of Canada's work on concussions to help prevent serious health outcomes for Canadians.
