The Honourable Eugene Rossiter was born in Morell, Prince Edward Island. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University.
Justice Rossiter was called to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1978 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1991.
After completing his studies, he worked as Associate and later as Partner at Stewart McKelvey law firm (formerly Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales) at their office in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from 1979 to 2006.
Justice Rossiter has served in a number of important roles, including President of the Prince Edward Island Law Society, member of the Prince Edward Island Supreme Court Rules Committee, Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Governor of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, Governor of the Prince Edward Island Junior Achievement, member of the Partnership Board of Stewart McKelvey, and Chairman of the Partnership Board of Stewart McKelvey.
He was appointed a Judge of the Tax Court of Canada on November 23, 2006, and has served as Associate Chief Justice of the Tax Court of Canada since July 15, 2008.
Justice Rossiter is a founding Director and Secretary-General of the International Association of Tax Judges from 2010 to 2011, and has served as its President since 2011.
