Friday, June 6, 2014 – Winnipeg – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, took part today in the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of l’École Taché and construction of a day care at the school. The Government of Canada is investing more than $1.5 million in the project, through the Canada-Manitoba Agreement on Minority Language Education and Second Official Language Instruction 2013-14 to 2017-18. The school and community centre will be able to expand its offerings in the areas of early childhood and day care services. A multi-purpose room will also be added to serve the needs of the minority francophone population.
A portion of the funding announced today will come from the Roadmap for Canada’s Official Languages 2013-2018: Education, Immigration and Communities.
“Our support will make it possible for l’École Taché to meet the needs of its community and young people. This ceremony kicks off the construction work, and that is exciting news for Winnipeg’s francophone community.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“This expansion ensures the growing student body here at l’École Taché will have a spacious, modern environment that supports their learning needs. In addition, the new multi-purpose room will promote healthy lifestyles for students and the wider community.”
—The Honourable James Allum, Minister of Education and Advanced Learning
“Here we are, about to begin a major construction project at l’École Taché. Classroom and preschool spaces will be built to meet the critical needs of students and children in this school community. Thank you to the provincial and federal governments that have invested in this project, which will help to develop this community.”
