Biography

Philippe Michon holds a B.A. in Historical Science and Heritage Studies from Laval University and an M.A. in History with a computer science profile from the University of Sherbrooke. After completing his studies, he worked as a consultant for the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications and the Observatory of Culture and Communications of Quebec. Over the course of these jobs, he became interested in the democratization of metadata and, more specifically, in linked open data (LOD) in the cultural heritage sector.

Philippe joined the Canadian Heritage Information Network team in 2018. He is responsible for developing the semantic models underlying the online publication of Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging, Artefacts Canada and Creators in Canada. As part of his duties, he participates in various working committees that discuss initiatives dealing with the development of LOD, including the Linked Art initiative led by the J. Paul Getty Trust and the Savoirs Communs du Cinéma initiative of the Cinémathèque québécoise. Lastly, he is also involved in the development of tools based on the principles and technologies associated with LOD, such as the National Heritage Digitization Strategy and Laval University’s Répertoire de vedettes-matière (RVM).
