What this program stream offers
The Contributions stream will fund projects that aim to localize SDGs in communities. Funded projects will adapt, employ, and monitor progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level and will measure and report on the SDGs.
We are currently accepting applications, from eligible organizations interested in receiving up to $900,000 in Contribution funding (maximum of $300,000 per fiscal year), for projects that are up to 36 months in duration.
For this Call for Proposals (CFP), the program is also accepting applications under a second stream: Sustainable Development Goals Program – Grants Stream.
Eligible organizations may submit only 1 application for funding under this Call for Proposals.
Note to eligible organizations: If you apply for this Contributions stream, you cannot apply under the Grants stream. If an application is submitted for both streams, you will be asked to select only one stream for which you would like to be considered.

Glossary
Here is a list of key terms used within this application guide.
- Community
- A group of people who share something in common. A community can be defined by the shared attributes of the people in it and/or by the strength of the connections among them.
- Innovative approach
- An approach that will introduce a new product, idea, process, or technology, or complement, rethink, and/or adapt existing activities that support Canada’s implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
- Multidisciplinary
- Projects that recognize the interconnectedness of the three dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social, and environmental) and focus on more than one SDG.
- National Scope
- National in scope means an organization must demonstrate that its benefits will be effectively extended nationwide, extending beyond more than 1 province, territory, or region.
- Outcomes
- These are the changes that are expected to occur as the result of the project (more than one outcome could be directly related to an objective). They answer the question, “How will we know if the project has achieved its expected results, whether this is at a community or individual level?”.
- Outputs
- These are the direct products or services that will be produced to generate the desired outcomes. Several activities could contribute to one output. They answer the question, “What will the project produce?” (for example, a guide, information sessions, etc.). A good project proposal will clearly define project outputs and expected results.
- Sustainable development
- Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It has three dimensions that are balanced and complement each other:
- economic: supporting the creation of conditions to allow quality jobs that stimulate the economy without harming the environment
- environmental: supporting the creation of conditions to conserve natural resources and the environment to allow people to live well, now and in the future
- social: supporting the creation of conditions to current and future generations to promote diverse and inclusive communities where rights are respected and people feel secure and reach their full potential
- Sustainable Development Goals
- The Government of Canada works with partners and stakeholders to advance the 2030 Agenda through concrete actions on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These actions include reducing poverty, building sustainable economic growth, supporting reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, advancing gender equality, and taking action on climate change and clean energy. The 17 SDGs are available on the Canada and the Sustainable Development Goals web page.
