Canadian Forces Intelligence Command Chief Warrant Officer
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Chief Warrant Officer Lance Dunn joined the Canadian Army Reserve in 1992 as a Field Engineer in Calgary. CWO Dunn transferred to the Regular Force in 1993 as a Radio Operator. In 1994, after completing his trades training, he was posted to his first unit, 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron (2 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn) in Petawawa, Ontario. From 1998 to 2000 he was a Signaller at 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, after which he returned to 2 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn. During the period from 2004 through to 2012, CWO Dunn was a Communications Specialist with Canadian Special Operations Command (CANSOFCOM) in Ottawa. He occupied several positions, including Maritime Communications Specialist, Command Post Sgt, Troop Commander, and Section Team Lead responsible for integration of new technology.
In 2012 he was selected to be a member of the team responsible to stand up the Canadian Special Operations Training Centre (CSOTC) in Petawawa as the Signals Subject Matter Expert and as the Unit Signals Officer. In 2013, after completing his assignment with CSOTC he was promoted to Master Warrant Officer, remained in CANSOFCOM and was posted back to Ottawa as a Signals Sergeant Major. Upon completion of his tenure as Sergeant Major in 2015, CWO Dunn attended full time second language training at Asticou in Gatineau, Quebec.
Chief Warrant Officer Dunn has deployed on multiple overseas operations to include Bosnia in 1996 as a member of IFOR, Honduras in 1998 as a member of DART, and Afghanistan in 2003 as a member of ISAF, and 2005, 2008, and 2010 as a member of CANSOFCOM. He has deployed on domestic operations to include the Winnipeg Flood in 1997, the Ice Storm in 1998, and the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.
In 2016 he assumed the duties as the Career Manager for junior members of the Army Communications and Information Systems Specialists (ACISS). This post culminated in his promotion to CWO and posting to 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron in Valcartier, Quebec as the Regimental Sergeant Major in 2017. In July 2019, he was appointed as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, the Netherlands. CWO Dunn was appointed as the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command Chief Warrant Officer in June 2022.
