Statement by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Status of Women, on the occasion of International Women's Day 2016 "Women's Empowerment Leads to Equality."

Statement

March 8, 2016 – Ottawa, Ontario

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s contributions to achieving gender equality.

As a feminist and advocate, I have seen women’s empowerment in action. It is lived out in the lives of women working to create change. It is exercised by women for women, to build a stronger, more peaceful and more equitable society for all.

To mark International Women’s Day 2016, tell us about the women who inspire and empower you. Please take a moment to tag empowered women in your life, using hashtag #YouAreEmpowerment.

On this day, may each of us – women and men alike – make a commitment to make Canada even better.  May we stand together and proudly call ourselves feminists as we work to build a country where all people are equal in all aspects of life. That’s the Canada we want. Let’s make it happen!

Happy International Women’s Day!
