Write brief biographies
Well-crafted biographies provide the foundation for your gallery. For each woman of impact, tell her story by providing information about her background, her accomplishments, and the impact she has made in your community.
Research
Some of your research work can be completed online. Search for newspaper articles and other content, but always be mindful that content should be fact-checked. If you are using a site with user-generated content, such as Wikipedia, review the references and verify the source material to help determine the article’s accuracy.
Whenever possible, consider interviewing subjects in person, as they can offer detailed answers to your questions and provide a personal quotation. You can also visit your local or school library to access books and other research materials.

Writing and editing
Below are general guidelines for drafting a biography:
- Use plain language that is easy for readers to understand
- Begin with an introductory sentence that describes the person’s impact
- Provide factual details about the person’s life and accomplishments in chronological order
- Set an approximate word limit for consistency (150 words each)
- Include a personal quotation to show a more personal side
Ask another team member to edit the content for spelling, grammar and punctuation. If you need help, consult The Canadian Style or another writing resource.
