Regulations Amending the Public Service Superannuation Regulations (PSSR) (Optional Survivor Benefit)

Description of the objective

Issue

At present, the regulations deal only with an election for the Optional Survivor Benefit (OSB) made by a legally married pensioner. Statutory amendments to expand this OSB election opportunity to common-law relationships were enacted in 2012, but the supporting regulations have not been made.

Description of the regulation

Modifications to regulations will deal with the operational details for an OSB election in a common-law relationship situation. The amendments may also include some consequential changes to the various medical examination provisions for purposes of a common approach.
