Media invited to stratospheric balloon campaign activities

Longueuil, Quebec,  — From to 31, four stratospheric balloons are being launched at the Timmins Base carrying experiments designed by Canadian teams, as part of the STRATOS campaign. On , media and local summer camp students from Science Timmins will be able to attend workshops and tour the launch and control sites.

STRATOS is the CSA's stratospheric balloon program, created in in collaboration with France's space agency, the Centre national d'études spatiales (CNES). It provides Canadian universities and businesses with an opportunity to test and validate new technologies and perform scientific experiments in a near-space environment.

Media representatives are invited to attend the activities listed below. Media interested in interviews with CSA experts, may contact the CSA's Media Relations Office.

Opening remarks and question-and-answer session with summer camp students and STRATOS participants

During the afternoon, there will be opportunities to:

  • Tour of the balloon control centre, laboratory or meteorological centre
  • Attend workshop on the mechanics of stratospheric balloons
