Marie-Julie: Hello, my name is Marie-Julie.
This is the third and final video in our overview of the UFile CVITP software.
In the first two videos, we went over the software installation requirements, the installation process, the software’s tabs, and some of the topics under the Interview tab.
In this video, we’ll take a look at reviewing the tax returns and submitting them electronically.
Image on screen: Title: Outline; the key topics appear to the left as the narration goes; to the right, the UFile logo shows a white, half maple leaf against a red background and black letters reading UFile
Marie-Julie: These steps include options to control how MaxBack works and the Review, Tax Return and EFILE tabs.
We will also go over how to print and save the tax returns.

Marie-Julie: As mentioned in the second video, the individual’s information is entered in the various topics of the software’s left-side menu, under the Interview tab. [callout surrounds the tab while the menu is highlighted]
The MaxBack feature is helpful in optimizing the transfer and claim of credits and deductions between family members. It can help reduce the amount of tax owed or ensure refunds are maximized. MaxBack decisions are applicable to the federal and Quebec tax returns. [callout surrounds the title]
If you want to change the MaxBack control options, click the Controls topic in the left-side menu of the software under the Interview tab. You are not required to change the settings on this page. [callout surround the tab from the left side menu]

Marie-Julie: The Review tab, found on the top menu bar, allows you to review a summary of the information that you have entered. [callout surrounds the tab and as the narration goes, callouts surround each tab from the menu and each section appears on screen]:
- The Summary section shows the results for the family and breaks down the amount for each member. It will also show individual results for each family member's federal and Quebec tax returns.
- The Messages section displays errors, warnings, and MaxBack notes and analysis. As mentioned earlier, this information is also found at the bottom of each screen.
- The Federal section shows the federal tax return summary and the Quebec section shows the Quebec income tax return summary.
- The Tax saving ideas section suggests potential advice for the individual's situation.
If errors are detected, no amount will be calculated and an error message will be displayed.

Marie-Julie: The Tax Return tab [callout surrounds the tab in the top menu bar] generates the completed tax returns for the individual and, if applicable, their family.
You can view the pages of the tax returns by scrolling the main page or by selecting a specific page from the left-side menu. [cursor scrolling on page and left side menu highlighted].
The software automatically generates all applicable schedules and forms, including the federal authorization form TIS60, Taxpayer Authorization, and the Quebec authorization form TP-1000.PB-V Authorization to Complete and File a Personal Income Tax Return Online [callout surrounds the tab in the left side menu]. These forms can also be printed from this screen.
To review tax returns for other family members, select the sub-tab corresponding to their profile. [callout surrounds the My Spouse tab]
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Filing status for: Family Head screen
Marie-Julie: Use the EFILE tab to transmit tax returns using EFILE and NetFile Québec. The software will guide you through the steps. [callout surrounds the topics displayed in the left side menu].
Click the EFILE tab to access the Filing Status section. Each family member’s filing status will be displayed to the right of their name.
You must file the federal tax return and the Quebec income tax return separately.
If the filing status displayed for the individual is Ready for filing, this means the tax return can be filed electronically. Click the Ready for filing link to access the next screen, which will be either Federal submission or Quebec submission. [callout surrounds the Ready for filing tab and cursor clicks on it].
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Federal EFILE submission for: Family Head screen
Marie-Julie: Click File my return now! on the Federal submission page to submit the federal tax return with the EFILE. [callout surrounds the tab]
The software will connect directly with the CRA and transmit the tax return.
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Quebec NetFile submission for: Family Head screen
Marie-Julie: In the Quebec submission page, click File my return now! to submit the Quebec income tax return with NetFile Québec. [callout surrounds the tab]
The software will connect directly with Revenu Québec and transmit the income tax return.
The transmission of the federal and Quebec tax returns may take a few minutes because an initial review is done on each tax return.
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Quebec NetFile submission for: Family Head screen
Marie-Julie: When the review is complete, a confirmation report is displayed. [a Federal EFILE Report pop-up windows appear on screen]
If no errors are detected for the federal tax return at the time of electronic filling, the Federal EFILE Report screen will appear and display a green Accepted message. A document control and confirmation number will also appear on the screen. [callout surrounds the topics]
The Accepted message means that the tax return was received by the CRA.
If the tax return is not accepted by the CRA at the time of the EFILE transmission, the Federal EFILE Report will indicate Rejected – Please review the error(s) below in red. [callout surrounds the topics]
An explanation of the reason(s) why the tax return was rejected will appear in either the Result or Error code(s) section. Fields that must be corrected will also be listed. [callout surrounds the topics]
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Quebec NetFile submission for: Family Head screen
Marie-Julie: The process is similar for transmitting the Quebec income tax return. If NetFile Québec does not detect any errors at the time of electronic filing, the Quebec NetFile submission screen will indicate Accepted and provide a reference number. [callout surrounds the topics]
If the Quebec income tax return is not accepted by Revenu Québec at the time of transmission, the Quebec NetFile submission screen will indicate the message Rejected and will provide error codes. [callout surrounds the topics]
Note that federal and Quebec tax returns can be rejected several times with different error codes. A tax return can also be accepted by the CRA but rejected by Revenu Québec, or vice versa.

Marie-Julie: The CRA and Revenu Québec encourage electronic filing. However, you may need to print a copy of a tax return for an individual.
To print, click the Tax Return tab for the family member who needs it printed. [callout surrounds the tax return tab and an arrow is pointing]
Click the Print button at the bottom of the screen. The Print tax return pop-up window will give you the option to print either the federal tax return only, the Quebec income tax return only, or the pages that you previously selected. [callout surrounds the topics]
The Selected pages option allows you to print individual forms, schedules, and other pages. [callout surrounds the select pages to print menu on the right]
To start printing, click Start printing. [callout surrounds the start printing button]

Marie-Julie: You don’t need to save a tax return to submit it electronically or to print it. Saving a tax return is not encouraged, but sometimes you may have. For example, there may be times when you can’t transmit a tax return immediately after preparing it.
UFile CVITP uses password protection when saving tax files. The files must always be saved on a USB key and not on a computer hard drive.
Click File in the upper left corner of the screen and select Save as.... [callouts surrounds the File and Save as buttons]
Select the location where the file will be saved in the pop-up window and click Save. [callout surrounds the Save button]
A Password protect file pop-up window will open and ask you to enter a password. Once this is done, click Set user password. [Password is typed in and callout surrounds the Set user password button]
To make sure you don’t forget a password, it is recommended that you use the same one for all the tax returns that you must save.
Image on screen: UFile CVITP 2023, Start screen
Marie-Julie: To open a tax file that you have already saved, click Open an existing file under the Start tab. Select the file location and click Open. [callouts surrounds the Open an existing file and the Open buttons]
Enter the password in the Password Protected File window and click OK to open the file. [Password is typed in and callout surrounds the OK button]
