ReFILE Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice
Terms and conditions
To ReFILE your T1 return, you must agree to the following terms and conditions:
- I understand and agree that I cannot change my name, address, marital status or direct deposit information on the return. This personal information is not transmitted with my return when I use ReFILE. My Notice of Reassessment and refund will be sent to the address on file with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) not to the address I entered using the software to prepare my ReFILE submission.
- I have verified the restrictions on the Restrictions page on the ReFILE website to make sure I am eligible to submit changes to my tax return electronically.
- I may only ReFILE in my name.
- I may only make changes to an eligible 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023 personal income tax benefit return using the ReFILE service. I will not attempt to disrupt the ReFILE service by transmitting files other than my own eligible ReFILE submission. If I do, the CRA will deny me access to electronic services.
- I certify that the ReFILE submission I will transmit to the CRA is correct, complete, and that I have not changed my name, address, date of birth, marital status or direct deposit information on the submission. This personal information is not transmitted with my submission when I use the ReFILE service. My Notice of Reassessment will be sent to the address on file with the CRA and not to the address I entered using the software to prepare my ReFILE submission. If the CRA has my direct deposit information, my refund will be deposited in my account and will not be sent to the mailing address on file with the CRA.
Privacy Notice
Personal information is collected under the authority of section 150 of the Income Tax Act and is used to assess and process individual income tax returns and payments for all provinces and territories (except Québec). Information may also be used for follow-up, audit, compliance, and evaluation purposes and may be shared, in accordance with the Income Tax Act and under existing information-sharing agreements, with other federal institutions and provincial governments. Failure to provide all or parts of the requested personal information may result in penalties incurred and other non-filer actions.
Information is described in Personal Information Bank (PIB) Individual Income Tax Return, CRA PPU 005, the description of which can be found in the CRA Chapter of the Info Source publication. Personal information is protected under the Privacy Act and individuals have a right of access to and correction of their personal information. Further details concerning requests for personal information can be found in the Forward section of the Info Source publication.
NOTE: Once you send your ReFILE submission, a preliminary check of your changes will be performed. If your changes meet the basic requirements, the CRA will send you a confirmation number within seconds. This means that your ReFILE submission has been accepted for processing. If there are any problems with the ReFILE submission you tried to send to the CRA, you will be prompted with a response indicating your ReFILE submission was not accepted by the CRA for processing. Review your requested changes with the most recent copy of your Notice of Assessment and then try to send it again using the ReFILE service.
If you continue to experience issues, you can contact CRA’s Individual income tax and trust enquiries line at 1-800-959-8281.
MyAccount: You can track your return, setup a pre-authorized payment plan and check on your refund through My Account, our secure online service. You can register at MyAccount.
ATTENTION
Please ensure your ReFILE submission was completed with a software that has been certified to use the ReFILE service and that it is the latest version of your software. In some cases not updating your software will prevent you from being able to use the ReFILE service.
