2. What types of addresses can be changed online?

The address change online service allows you to change your business’s mailing, physical, and books and records addresses.

You can change a business address online to any Canadian address, or to any address in the United States or a foreign country. If you cannot find a specific country in the list of countries, please contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The street, city, and province will be determined once you enter the postal code of your business’s new address. The language of a street name is determined by Canada Post and not by the preferred language the CRA has for the business in its records.

If your business’s new address does not appear in the list after you enter the postal code, please contact the CRA.

When you make a change to one or more of your business’s addresses, any address you have entered with a post-dated effective date will be deleted.

3. What is a mailing address?

A mailing address is the address to which the CRA sends correspondence to your business.

4. What is a physical address?

A physical address is the address at which the day-to-day activities of your business take place.

The physical address must be the address of the physical location of the business. Rural routes and post office boxes cannot be used as a physical address.

5. What is a books and records address?

A books and records address is the address of the physical location where the business keeps its books and records.

6. Can the mailing address be different from the physical address?

Yes, the mailing address can be different from the physical address. For example, you may have your business mail delivered to the office of your accountant.
