CRTC Broadband Fund: projects selected in December 2023
Backgrounder
Through its Broadband Fund, the CRTC has selected two new projects and approved more funding for a previously selected project.
The first project will bring high-speed Internet service to all communities in Nunavut for the first time.
The second project will provide funding for Keewaytinook Okimakanak to maintain satellite Internet connectivity in two First Nation communities in Northern Ontario.
The CRTC is also providing more funding to Northwestel’s Yukon Fibre project, which was selected in August 2020 and included 24 communities in Yukon. The project will now be expanded to bring fibre-based Internet services to Atlin, a small community in Northern British Columbia.
In total, the projects announced today will benefit 28 communities. The CRTC continues to assess applications and will make more funding announcements in 2024.
