Project description
Detailed inspections concluded that the bridge structure is in poor condition (Studies and reports: Replacing the Alexandra Bridge).
The boardwalk and articulation repair project will mainly address the safety of the bridge. The work will stabilize its structure so it continues to be safely used until its replacement.
Once the project is completed, the boardwalk will also provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.
Key milestones
- Winter 2022: A request for proposals was issued for construction management to deliver the project
- Spring 2023: The construction management contract was awarded
- Fall 2023: Work started, and the bridge closed to vehicular traffic
- Winter 2025: Vehicular access will be reinstated, with off-peak closures expected to continue until the end of the project
- Summer 2025: Repairs and stabilization work will be completed
Impact on traffic
The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists during the construction period. We are working with our partners to ensure that plans are in place to minimize disruptions to commuting traffic during the project.
