Offshore oceanographic science vessel

The offshore oceanographic science vessel (OOSV) will:

  • become the largest dedicated science vessel in the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) fleet
  • provide increased capability and capacity to support the marine science missions of Fisheries and Oceans Canada on our east coast
  • conduct work to help improve Canada's understanding of the Atlantic Ocean, which is home to some of the most productive marine environments in the world

Current status

In August 2024, the OOSV was launched, which marked the completion of the construction of the ship's underwater hull and the first time it was lowered into the water. Following the launch, pier-side work is being performed, leading to both harbour and sea trials.

Following pier-side work and harbour and sea trials, the OOSV is expected to be delivered to the CCG in 2025.
