Statement by the Honourable Carla Qualtrough on the Board of Review recommendations in the matter of Your Ward News

Gatineau, Quebec, November 15, 2018 – Today, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, the Minister responsible for Canada Post Corporation, made the following statement concerning the distribution, through Canada Post, of the tabloid Your Ward News.
“After having carefully considered the recommendations of the independent Board of Review, I have decided to issue a final prohibitory order that will prevent the delivery of the publication Your Ward News, or any substantially similar material developed by its authors, through Canada Post’s unaddressed bulk mail.
“My decision is consistent with the applicable legislation and the government’s values and stance on inclusiveness and diversity.
“I would like to thank the members of the Board of Review, Fareen L. Jamal, Elizabeth Forster and Peter John Loewen for their thoughtful contributions.”

The Board of Review submitted its report to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility, as the Minister responsible for Canada Post Corporation, on August 29, 2018.
