Statement from Minister Goodale on the release of the national security consultation summary report

Ottawa, May 19, 2017

“Today the government released a report summarizing “What We Learned” from our unprecedented public consultations on the national security framework. This report, produced by an independent third party, provides an impartial overview of what Canadians said.

This information will be used to inform the important decisions we need to make to protect our national security and safeguard our rights and freedoms. 

We are diligently working to deliver on this commitment, and look forward to sharing our plans in the near future.

I want to thank everyone who participated in this important national conversation.

I am grateful that so many shared their thoughts, views and ideas at roundtables and town halls, and through our online consultation and digital engagement events.

In all, we received more than 58,000 responses to questions online, and more than 17,000 emails.

In addition to the summary report, the online and email submissions have been released on the Open Government portal and summaries from the public town halls have also been published online.”
