Epidemiological summary

During epidemiological week 40, 2024, no new cases of measles or rubella were reported in CanadaFootnote 2. To date in 2024, 82 cases of measles and 1 case of congenital rubella syndrome/infection have been reported, along with 1 measles death. The last case of rubella was reported in September 2023.

Epidemiological weeks for laboratory specimens submitted to the National Microbiology Laboratory are assigned and reported in accordance with WHO guidelines (WHO.WER.2012;9(87):73) with week 1 beginning on the first Monday of the year, which for 2024 is January 1. However, for the purposes of this report, the genotype data is presented in accordance with PAHO reporting weeks with week 1 of 2024 beginning on December 31, 2023.
