Prairies Performing Arts Initiative (PPAI) - 4. How to apply
4. How to apply
Intake period: Limited time period
Expressions of Interest will be accepted on a timed intake until February 1, 2025, or until funding has been fully committed or otherwise announced here. Applicants are encouraged to submit their proposal as soon as possible for consideration.
All projects must be completed by March 31, 2027.
The PPAI program uses a 2-stage timed intake approach to which you may apply until February 1, 2025:
- Expression of interest (EOI): This abbreviated online application form lets you describe the proposed project purpose, rationale, eligibility, activities and budget. We use it to determine if a project should advance to a full application.
- Full application: If your project is selected to advance to the second stage, we will invite you to provide more details about your project through our online portal.
Please refer to the EOI help guide for instructions on how to complete the expression of interest form, and, if your project advances to the second stage, refer to the applicant guide for instructions on how to complete the full application form on our online portal.
1. Navigate to PrairiesCan’s application portal
- Sign in to your existing account or create a new account.
- If you are experiencing difficulties signing in or creating an account, please refer to the sign-in help guide, or contact a program representative.
2. Prepare to complete your expression of interest
Carefully review the guidelines for the Prairie Performing Arts Initiative (PPAI) to ensure your organization is eligible to apply for funding and your proposed activities meet the program’s objectives and criteria (see Step 2. Who is Eligible)
Prepare the following documents to submit as part of your EOI:
- financial statements for the past 2 years, or interim financial statements for at least the last 6-month period
- identification of other sources of funding where applicable
- any supporting documentation such as letters of support, regulatory approvals, board minutes, or list of the board of directors
- PPAI Supplemental Form for Diversity and Inclusion, if applicable
- other supporting documentation (e.g. business plan, pitch deck) detailing your organization and details about the proposed project
3. Complete the EOI form using the EOI help guide
Review the PPAI EOI help guide before submitting. We strongly recommend that you bookmark this page now for reference while completing the EOI form.
Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory and you will be unable to submit your EOI if such fields are left incomplete.
Incomplete EOIs cannot be assessed and may be deemed ineligible.
Contact PrairiesCan should you have any questions or wish to discuss your proposed project or other relevant government programs that may be applicable to your project.
4. Submit the EOI form through the PrairiesCan portal
Before submitting, make sure your company can enter into legally binding agreements and that the individual submitting is authorized to bind the company.

A copy of the application will be saved into the portal account.
PrairiesCan will not assess saved EOIs that have not been submitted.
Submitting an EOI does not constitute an offer of funding.
5. After submitting your expression of interest
EOIs demonstrating strong merit, alignment with program objectives, priority areas, and significant economic benefit will be invited to submit a full application for more in-depth evaluation. If we invite you to complete a full application, a PrairiesCan officer will be available to work with you and respond to any questions you may have on completing it.
Completed applications undergo a due diligence process where we further assess them against the following criteria:
- alignment to program objectives;
- strong project rationale (in other words, the project addresses a clear and significant need, opportunity, and/or sector gap and there is a demonstrated demand for the project);
- measurable economic results for the Canadian Prairies (for e.g., revenue growth, jobs created or maintained);
- effective governance measures and management team to carry out the project;
- financial statements showing how the organization/project will be financially self-sustaining; and
- if applicable, funding from the applicant and other partners, including provincial governments, the private sector and other non-government sources.
Within 30 days of the EOI submission, PrairiesCan will invite selected applicants to submit a full application for funding consideration. If you have not been contacted, your project will not be considered further.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any of our offices by email, telephone, fax, or mail.
