Administrative Burden Baseline Update 2023
The Administrative Burden Baseline (ABB) provides Canadians with a clear metric on the total number of requirements in federal regulations and associated forms that impose administrative burden on business. This baseline contributes to the openness and transparency of the federal regulatory system.
The federal regulation that is administered by the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB) that has requirements that impose an administrative burden on business is identified below. The total baseline count as of June 30, 2014 was 59 and can be viewed on the June 30, 2014, Baseline Count page. This count increased to 63 in 2021 following amendments designed to bring the Patented Medicine Regulations in line with the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
While amendments to the Patented Medicine Regulations came into force on July 1, 2022, the net impact of the changes on the baseline count is 0. As a result, the PMPRB’s 2023 count of regulatory-based requirements remains unchanged from 2021at 63.
