Video: The first Chinese Canadian Museum opens in Vancouver

Transcript

AI think it's just a really significant moment for the Chinese Canadian community to finally open the doors on July 1st for the first Chinese Canadian Museum for the entire country. It's going to have a critical repository for the Chinese Canadian experience that documents art, history, heritage, while celebrating the invaluable contributions of Chinese Canadians and their contribution in creating the Canada of today.

There's never been a museum that celebrates any particular culture in Canada and for us to be the first Chinese Canadian Museum of Canada, it's extremely important. It weaves the fabric of Chinese Canadian identity into Canadian identity where it belongs.

I'm just so proud to be here today to announce that the federal government will be supporting the Chinese Canadian Museum with an investment of more than $5 million.

To have this funding at this critical juncture has made all the difference for us to open on July 1st, which is in 2023, the 100 year anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act.
