Backgrounder: Canada and Prince Edward Island invest in education and active transportation infrastructure to help reduce the impacts of COVID-19
Backgrounder
Joint federal and provincial funding will support upgrades to four education and active transportation infrastructure projects in central Prince Edward Island. These investments will support safer and more sustainable communities.
The Government of Canada is investing over $2 million in the following projects through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure stream and the Green Infrastructure stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Prince Edward Island is providing over $911,000 in funding.

Eliot River Elementary Building Phase 1 |

Upgrades to Eliot River Elementary School include interior renovations such as: mechanical and electrical systems replacement; hot water and expansion tank replacement; new piping, pumps and LED lighting; reconstruction of the gym change room space and the construction two new accessible washrooms. The exterior will also receive upgrades, such as repainted brick and a new roof. |

Upgrades to Eliot River Elementary School parking and drop off area include an expanded bus and teacher parking area isolated from the parent and public drop off section for safe operation during the pandemic. This project will address operational issues that have been further impacted during the ongoing pandemic. |

Repairs to the Kensington Intermediate Senior High School consist of new brick and metal for the exterior and waterproofing an area of the foundation. These upgrades are required to improve the exterior building envelope and ensure that is it weather resistant. |

2021-22 Active Transportation Road Widening | Hunter River |

Construction of paved shoulders for approximately five kilometres across Prince Edward Island will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Work will include cold planing, filling the base of the path and sealing with asphalt. This project will reduce transportation emissions and encourage more walking and cycling by constructing safer active transportation corridors. |
