Canada’s nuclear regulator invites media to the public Commission hearing about the Near Surface Disposal Facility proposed for Deep River, Ontario

OTTAWA, Ontario, February 16, 2022 – The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) would like to inform the media of the upcoming 2-part public hearing related to the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL’s) Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) proposed for Deep River, Ontario.
Part 1 of the public hearing will be held on February 22, 2022. At that time, the Commission will consider CNL’s application to amend its Chalk River Laboratories site licence to authorize the construction of an NSDF. The Commission will hear presentations from CNL and from CNSC staff.
Part 2 of the public hearing will be held beginning May 31. During Part 2, Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public, and stakeholders will have the opportunity to present information to the Commission through interventions. Further details on the Part 2 hearing will be provided at a later date.
