The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable R. Lester Jesudason, a lawyer with the firm Blois, Nickerson & Bryson LLP in Halifax, is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, Family Division, to replace Mr. Justice R.J. Williams (Halifax), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of April 18, 2015.
Mr. Justice Jesudason received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Acadia University in 1993 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University Law School in 1996.
After being admitted to the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society in 1997, Mr. Justice Jesudason joined the firm Blois, Nickerson & Bryson LLP in Halifax as an associate, practising civil litigation and insurance law. He became a partner in 2002.
Mr. Justice Jesudason was previously the Chair of the Nova Scotia Police Review Board since 2007 and was Vice-Chair from 2003 to 2007. He was a member of several committees for both the Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia Branch and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. He was selected by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission to sit on its pro bono lawyer roster to represent parties in its Restorative Board of Inquiry process. He was also a pro bono lawyer with reachAbility.
This appointment is effective immediately.
