Today, the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, Minister of Democratic Reform, Minister responsible for the National Capital Region and Member of Parliament for Nepean – Carleton met with representatives of the Ottawa Police Service to acknowledge the unique role they play in the safety of the National Capital Region and to commit $10 million in funding over five years in support of policing services, as outlined in the 2015 Economic Action Plan.
The presence of federal landmarks and institutions of national significance has created a unique policing environment in the National Capital Region. In recognition of these exceptional circumstances, the Economic Action Plan 2015 has proposed $10 million for the city of Ottawa to support its increased security costs.
