February 14, 2015 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement on the attack in Copenhagen earlier today:
“I am shocked and saddened to hear of the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack at a freedom of speech event held in Copenhagen, Denmark, earlier today. Our Government is monitoring the situation closely. Canada's thoughts and prayers are with the people of Denmark during this difficult time.
Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of democracy. Any attempt to defeat this right will only strengthen the resolve of citizens to be heard. Canada stands united with the people of Denmark."
