OTTAWA – The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement:
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the death of Sergeant Mark Salesse, who suffered a tragic accident during Search and Rescue training on Thursday in Banff, Alberta.
“Sgt Salesse served as a Search and Rescue Technician at 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, 17 Wing Winnipeg.
“I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those affected by this tragedy, including all SAR Techs serving across Canada.
“Search and Rescue Technicians are the rescuers of last resort, getting called out in some of the worst weather to some of the most remote parts of Canada. This accident reminds us that Canadian Armed Forces members put their lives on the line every day.
“Sergeant Mark Salesse lost his life in the line of duty. His service to our country will be remembered.”
