OTTAWA – September 14, 2014 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean, issued the following statement today to highlight the Canadian Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony.
“Today we remember the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our friends, our families, and our communities. These individuals faced grave dangers on the front lines to help Canadians in their time of need. They served with great courage and for that our country is deeply grateful.
We commend the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation for their outstanding efforts to preserve the memory of the heroes who were lost so that we can be safe in our communities.
On behalf of our Government and our fellow Canadians, we extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones and friends of those who have lost their lives. The memory of their exemplary service will carry on.”
