OTTAWA, July 04, 2014 - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence, made the following statement today regarding the Province of Manitoba's request for Government of Canada assistance after declaring a provincial state of emergency due to flooding.
"Our Government continues to work closely with all provinces and territories to assist Canadians when large natural disasters strike. The Government Operations Centre is coordinating the federal government's response to the Province of Manitoba’s request for assistance. I would like to thank our partners in the Canadian Armed Forces for their assistance in the work we are doing to protect the well-being of people in affected communities. I also want to commend our provincial and municipal partners for their tireless work in facing this challenge.”
