The Harper Government today announced the opening of an additional NEXUS lane at the Ambassador Bridge port of entry in Windsor, Ontario.
This new lane will be used to process NEXUS members during high-volume periods and as a regular lane at other times. There are now three NEXUS lanes at the Ambassador Bridge crossing, bringing the total to six lanes available to NEXUS members in Windsor, Ontario.
The NEXUS program is designed to expedite the border clearance process for pre-approved, low-risk members travelling between Canada and the United States, allowing border services officers to focus on unknown or higher-risk travellers and goods.
This new NEXUS lane builds on the enhancements that Canada and the United States are making to the NEXUS program as part of the Beyond the Border Action Plan. The initiatives implemented to date include:
- Streamlining the membership renewal process;
- Extending membership eligibility to Canadian and United States citizens who currently do not reside in Canada or the United States;
- Expanding Trusted Traveller Canadian Air Transport Security Authority security screening lines in pre-clearance areas at major Canadian airports; and
- Expediting clearance through the Transportation Security Administration Pre-√ lanes at over 100 participating U.S. airports for domestic, trans-border and select international flights.
- Opening ten new NEXUS lanes at ports of entry across Canada;
Quick Facts
- The NEXUS fee is $50 (CAN or USD) and is valid for five years.
- NEXUS membership has increased more than 50% since the implementation of the Beyond the Border Action Plan in December 2011.
- NEXUS members enjoy expedited travel across the Canada-U.S. border at 8 international airports, 19 land ports of entry and approximately 430 marine locations.
