Ottawa - As commander-in-chief of Canada, it is my great honour to mark the 100th anniversary of the Valcartier assembly camp.
The Valcartier Garrison was created in 1914 to train members of the Canadian expeditionary forces who were crossing the ocean to take part in the war effort to defend our peace and freedom. The base has a long history and its soldiers have demonstrated their exemplary courage and dedication on numerous occasions, whether providing help and assistance to communities here in Canada or participating in missions overseas. As the citizen of a free and democratic society, I will never forget the sacrifices they have made.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my very sincere thanks to all those who have served Canada over the past century and to all those who continue to serve on the Valcartier base.
