The Canadian Forces’ highest award for non-military personnel was presented today by General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ottawa. The Medallion for Distinguished Service and accompanying certificate were presented to Dr. Cecil Rorabeck, OC, MD, FRCSC, President, and Dr. Andrew Padmos, MD, FRCPC, the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal College.
“The Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada have shared a long relationship strengthened by our common commitment to service, excellence, and innovation in medical care. While many Fellows of the Royal College have served in the armed forces, many civilian Fellows also accepted hardship and risk serving with us at the Canadian-led NATO combat hospital in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Whether here at home, or deployed with us overseas, their support has been outstanding.”
General Tom Lawson
Chief of the Defence Staff
“Canada's military personnel, our allies, and the civilian populations they help protect on missions around the world are extremely fortunate to enjoy the wholehearted and selfless support of the Royal College. Its internationally recognized expertise in specialist training and education has directly contributed to both the high standard of care provided by the Royal Canadian Medical Service, and to the success of Canadian Armed Forces military and humanitarian operations."
