May 4, 2014 - Ottawa
General Tom Lawson, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), is pleased to announce that he will host U.S. General Philip M. Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Commander of U.S. European Command, during a two-day visit to Canada on May 5-6. General Breedlove is responsible to NATO’s highest military authority, the Military Committee, for the conduct of all NATO military operations.
General Breedlove’s visit provides an opportunity for the Government of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces to discuss NATO’s reassurance measures to address the crisis in Ukraine and Canada’s contribution to these measures, as well as other current Alliance priorities. He will also be a keynote speaker on May 5 at a special event hosted by the Conference of Defence Associations Institute and the Canadian War Museum.
“I am pleased to host NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander, General Breedlove during his first visit to Ottawa. General Breedlove’s visit offers the senior leadership of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Government of Canada an excellent opportunity to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, and Canada’s contributions to NATO in this changing security environment.”
