Ottawa, Ontario, February 19, 2014 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, commended the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the Service de police de la Ville de Longueuil, for their efforts in locating and shutting down a clandestine laboratory in Longueuil, Quebec, last November. Members of the RCMP’s ‘C’ Division Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team (CLET) successfully dismantled the lab. Additional steroids and substances that could have been used to produce over 280,000 counterfeit pills were seized at a storage facility.
“I applaud the outstanding work of all those involved in this operation, and for preventing extremely dangerous, counterfeit drugs from reaching our streets and communities. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals pose very serious health risks, and stopping the production of these drugs benefits all Canadians. We are committed to supporting our police who work to ensure our communities are safe places to live, work and raise our families.”
