Ottawa, Ontario, January 28, 2014 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today recognized members of the Toronto Immigration Task Force following the arrest of Wei Can Xie in Markham, Ontario. Xie is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of production of a controlled substance.
“I applaud the Toronto Immigration Task Force, which includes members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Canada Border Services Agency, who successfully located and arrested Mr. Xie following a helpful tip from the public. We are committed to supporting law enforcement officers in their work to identify and arrest those have committed serious crimes and abused our generous immigration system.
I would especially like to thank members of the public for their valuable assistance in locating individuals who appear on the ‘Wanted by the CBSA List’. We urge Canadians to remain vigilant and notify authorities if they have information that could help in locating any of the individuals who remain at large.”
To date, as a result of the “Wanted by the CBSA” program, Canadians have assisted in locating 51 individuals in Canada, of which 42 have been removed. Additionally, 11 other individuals were located abroad.
