Today, Earl Dreeshen, Member of Parliament for Red Deer, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for two infrastructure projects in the Village of Delburne under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada,
" said MP Dreeshen. "By making investments in local infrastructure in communities such as Delburne, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.
"
The Harper Government's investment of $78,785 will go towards upgrades to the Village of Delburne's water supply system. The installation of electronically-readable water meters will result in a more accurate system that increases water conservation and lowers operating costs.
"The Village of Delburne sincerely appreciates the funding that the federal government has given to us through previous programs and now with the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
" said his Worship Ray Reckseidler, Mayor of the Village of Delburne. "With the assistance of the federal government we are now able to upgrade our water metering system.
"
The Harper Government is also investing $17,360 towards upgrades at the Delburne Community Hall. This investment will support improvements including the replacement of windows and kitchen counters and the extension of the roof. These improvements will ensure that the Centre continues to be available for community events for years to come.
"The Delburne Community Hall Society would like to express sincere thanks to the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
" said Sandy Paradon, President of the Delburne Community Hall Society. "Without this financial support, we would not have been able to complete our renovations in time for the Village of Delburne's 100th anniversary celebrations in 2013.
"
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
