OTTAWA – April 20, 2012 – This morning, Bob Paulson, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspected the 32 horses and riders of its world-renowned Musical Ride at the RCMP Musical Ride Stables. The Commissioner was accompanied by Kevin MacLeod, Canadian Secretary to the Queen.
“Through the years, the RCMP has enjoyed a particularly close relationship with Her Majesty. In her time as Canada's Queen, Canadians have held her in high esteem and the RCMP is proud to be a part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations”, said Commissioner Paulson.
The Musical Ride will depart late April for Europe where they will participate in several events in honour of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating Her Majesty’s 60th anniversary as Queen of Canada, and will then undertake its summer tour with shows throughout Ontario and Manitoba.
While in the U.K., the Musical Ride will give afternoon performances at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on May 10, 12 and 13 and give special evening performances at its Diamond Jubilee Pageant from May 10 to 13, the latter being in the presence of Her Majesty. The Canadian Tenors and the Inuit group Artcirq will complement the Musical Ride performances at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
On May 23, Musical Ride members will also participate in the “Mounting of the Queen’s Life Guard”, for the first time since the Coronation of King George VI in 1937. This will also be the first time that women will be acting in such a role.
The Ride will participate in the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede (July 6 - 15). It will also perform at the Tops Field Fair in Massachusetts, which is the oldest agricultural fair in North America. The Ride will also visit communities such as Windsor, London and Caledonia in Ontario and Brandon and Winnipeg in Manitoba. The Sunset Ceremonies in Ottawa, will take place June 26 – 30.
