Ottawa, December 29, 2011 – The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement congratulating the success of the film Breakaway:
I am pleased to extend my congratulations to the makers of the movie Breakaway, a Canadian success story that was the top-grossing English-language Canadian film of 2011.
The cross-cultural comedy tells the story of the Speedy Singhs, an all-Sikh hockey team with dreams of stardom in our country’s national sport.
When recently asked to recommend any Canadian film, book or recording released in 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper chose to highlight Breakaway.
As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I am happy to second the Prime Minister’s endorsement and to applaud the achievements of the filmmakers, actors and crew of Breakaway.
