(No. 226 - August 11, 2011 - 2:50 p.m. ET) Canada today officially opened a consulate in Tbilisi, Georgia, headed by Honorary Consul Clifford Isaak.
“The Government of Canada is happy to expand its consular services abroad and assist Canadian companies seeking trade opportunities,” said the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs).
The new consulate will offer consular services to Canadians in the region. It will also serve to facilitate commercial ties between Canada and Georgia.
Canada and Georgia have enjoyed many years of good relations and the launch of this new consulate headed by an honorary consul comes as Georgia prepares to open an embassy in Ottawa.
