OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 26, 2011 — Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, announced that the Restoring Mail Delivery for Canadians Act has received Royal Assent and is now the law of the land. The Act is the Harper Government’s plan to end the Canada Post work stoppage.
“The Harper Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to complete the economic recovery,” said Minister Raitt. “There is clear evidence that this work stoppage is causing serious harm to small businesses and consumers across the country. We have acted to protect the country’s economy through fair legislation that will get Canadians their mail.”
The Bill was passed in the House of Commons on June 25 and in the Senate on June 26.
