Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will meet with the Right Honourable Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, during a working visit to Canada on May 31, 2010.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Prime Minister Netanyahu to Canada”, said Prime Minister Harper. “Our countries have a close and enduring friendship which we are working to further strengthen. There is tremendous respect in Canada for the courage, resilience and determination of Israel and its people.”
Prime Minister Harper spoke on the telephone with Prime Minister Netanyahu on Friday, April 30, 2010, to discuss the visit, which will include meetings with senior Canadian officials.
Canada and Israel have a strong, bilateral relationship, marked by close political, economic, social and cultural ties. Canada and Israel share 60 years of diplomatic relations. The relationship has been strengthened in recent years through increased cooperation in several areas, including public security, defence, trade and investment, and the increased frequency of ministerial visits.
