OTTAWA – October 27, 2009-The Royal Canadian Mounted Police – cherished icon of Canada, a source of national identity and pride. Yet few Canadians really know what they do and how.
JenCor Entertainment, a producer of the hit series Truth Duty Valour and Combat Forces, approached the RCMP in 2008 to discuss the feasibility of producing a unique documentary television series, one which would explore the many diverse tasks and missions for which the Mounties are responsible across Canada and even overseas. Such a series would go to the true heart of policing, reveal the remarkable personal experiences and sacrifices of the men and women of the Force and require unparalleled access to the organization.
For the RCMP, such a series was significant. Never before had it let cameras have such access to their people, units and missions. But it was now time – time to let Canadians know how the RCMP works to enforce the law, protect communities and Canadians. And so was born the documentary series – Courage in Red.
Courage in Red is educational as well as entertaining. Filmed throughout Canada and in overseas locations, Courage in Red profiles little-known RCMP units such as the Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Police Dog Service, VIP Protection, and the West Coast Marine Service. The series examines tough subjects: challenges facing youth today, preparing schools for emergencies such as: a potential shooting, Clan Labs and contraband smuggling.
It explores how the RCMP is working to face these issues and prevent serious problems from escalating. It's frontline policing on the edge, with stories of compassion and danger – it's an in depth look into the very real world of policing. Episodes such as Depot and Northern Policing truly reveal the unique Canadians who wear the scarlet tunic, profiling their passion, pride and selfless dedication to their communities.
Never before has there been a series like Courage in Red – a series that tells the real stories about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – A force that is Proud, Proven and Professional.
