CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY
It gives me great pleasure to present to you this extraordinary concert at the Citadelle of Québec.
It is a way for me to open the doors of this residence once again and give this place steeped in history an even broader cultural purpose.
I am convinced that the world would lose its essence, its beauty and its relevance without artists.
The arts and culture make our lives just a little more special, and I strive to ensure that they are accessible and widely available.
Tonight's performance would not have been possible without the help and support of the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Lévis. For that, we thank its members and directors most sincerely.
This evening, we welcome two artists who, in very different eras, have thrilled audiences with their incredible talent.
She is new to the scene and already a jazz star.
He is a legend and a unique virtuoso of the genre.
What they share is a passion, a reciprocity, and the sheer joy of immersing themselves in the smooth sounds of jazz that fill the soul and move your feet. A fresh perspective blended with a master's touch.
A music that transcends generations and distances.
Tonight is unequivocal proof that age is not an insurmountable barrier and that in this relationship between the up-and-coming generation and the generation that has come before reside promises of renewal.
Consider how Oscar Peterson was a mentor and inspiration to Oliver Jones. How that relationship based on friendship and mutual admiration brought a richness to the jazz world that it had not seen before.
And if Oliver Jones now takes Nikki Yanofsky under his wing, it is so that she, too, can display her talent and take flight.
And now, without further ado, let's welcome them.
Oliver Jones and Nikki Yanofsky!
